Research Interests
I'm interested in the ecological and evolutionary significance of plant-microbiome interactions in natural and agro-ecosystems and the generation of biotechnological solutions for agriculture. During my PhD I studied the microbiome of wild and domesticated agaves and cacti, and evaluated how kesytone microorganisms influence the assembly of phyllospheric microbial communities and plant growth. In Eva Stukenbrock’s lab, I am focusing on the microbiome dynamics of wild grasses (Aegilops cylindrica and Hordeum murinum) during the infection of Zymoseptoria tritici and Zymoseptoria passerinii. By studying how virulent and avirulent Zymoseptoria lineages interact with the microbiome of their specific host, I aim to assess the role of the leaf microbiome in disease progression and host specialization.
