Research in the Environmental Genomics group focuses on different aspects of plant-microbe interaction and co-adaptation. We are in particular interested in fungi which co-exist with plants as endophytes or pathogens. Our research is funded by the European Research Council (Consolidator Project “FungalSecrets”), The German Science Foundation, The Max Planck Society and CIFAR.
We study plant microbial communities in the framework of the Collaborative Research Center CRC118 “Origin and Function of Metaorganisms”.
We study the evolution of pathogens in agricultural and natural ecosystems and we are member of the graduate program RTG2021 TransEvo.
We are passionate about fungal biology and study different aspects of fungal evolution with close association to the CIFAR Fungal Kingdom Program.
